Pitching for “social distancing”, Modi on Thursday called for a ‘Janta curfew’ from 7 am to 9 pm on March 22, saying no citizen, barring those in essential services, should get out of their houses, and asserted that it will be a litmus test to show India’s readiness to take on the coronavirus challenge.
This experience will serve the nation well, he added.
“This Sunday, that is on March 22, all citizens must follow this curfew from 7 am until 9 pm. During this curfew, we shall neither leave our homes, nor get onto the streets and refrain from roaming about in our societies or areas. Only those associated with emergency and essential services may leave their homes,” he said.
On 20th March 2020, The coronavirus scare reached the political corridors as well. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and her politician son Dushyant decided to self-quarantine themselves after they attended a social gathering in Lucknow recently where singer Kanika Kapoor – who has tested positive – was also present.
The 46-year-old Dushyant, who is married to Niharika Raje, is the Bharatiya Janata Party Lok Sabha MP from Rajasthan’s Jhalawar-Baran constituency. On Friday afternoon, Raje tweeted that she had attended a function hosted by her son’s in-laws while she was visiting Lucknow where the singer was also a guest.
“As a matter of abundant caution, my son & I have immediately self-quarantined and we’re taking all necessary precautions,” she wrote on her Twitter handle.
Earlier on Friday Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor, known for singing hit numbers like ‘Babydoll’ and ‘Desi look’ became the first B-Town celeb to test positive for COVID-19. The singer took to Instagram to share the news with her fans. “For the past 4 days I have had signs of flu, I got myself tested and it came positive for Covid-19,” she wrote.
The singer also urged her fans to practise self-isolation and get themselves tested if they have signs. About her symptoms, Kapoor wrote, “I am feeling ok, like a normal flu and a mild fever, however we need to be sensible citizens at this time and think of all around us.”
